After my sermon last Sunday, some of you asked about "Pioneer Life in Illinois," the book my great uncle wrote about his childhood on the Illinois frontier in the 1840s. A digital version of the text is available here. The section that I quoted the most in my sermon is on "Discontent," at p.82.
Here's a quick reminder that this Sunday we will have the blessing of the backpacks. Bring your school supplies and be prepared to come up during the welcome!
Living Stones Update #10 I'm excited to share that we have a new AC unit and will be able to return to the sanctuary this Sunday. The timing on our previous unit giving out was providential in two ways. First, because of the recent renovation, we were able to use the Family Center for our service, as something of a dry run on the transition we will make near the end of the year. Second, because our sanctuary expansion already involved buying new AC units, we were able to accelerate the purchase of one new unit, and that will now keep us cool.
We've also had a repair on our AV system, so we hope to have that up and running on Sunday as well.
I'll have more to say soon about "The Sure Foundation" Fundraiser, but for now please save the date for Friday, September 5th, at 6PM.
