Good afternoon, Trinity!
We’re beginning a new practice, of putting out an occasional “Rector’s Report.” Most of the time this will come out on Fridays, to communicate what we are doing at church, together with the reason why.
This weekend we have a Psalm Sing on Saturday at 4PM. This is an opportunity for us to gather, as Paul instructs, to sing “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart” (Ephesians 5:19). Of course we do that every Sunday morning, but by dedicating extra time to singing, we both enjoy friendship in the church and improve the quality of our song.
One of our key goals, in holding a Psalm Sing, is not only to sing more, but also to sing more beautifully. Thus, each Psalm Sing will include focused practice on a particular song. Tomorrow our focus will be the doxology, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow,” which we sing every Sunday. At the Psalm Sing, we will work on learning the different vocal parts of the doxology, with the goal of being able to sing it in harmony. Such harmony is a fitting adornment to Sunday worship, reflecting as it does the ministry of the angels.
At the end of our psalm sing, we will hold a reception with food (tacos!), music, and dancing. No, the dancing is not mandatory, but you may want to join in as the children demonstrate some of what they’ve been learning in the recent weeks. It’s sure to be quite a fun time, and I look forward to seeing you there!
