Advent Activities (And The True Story of Santa)

Greetings, Trinitarians!

The Advent season is full of encouraging activities for the whole family. These remind us of the hope and the joy we have through our faith in Christ, as Paul writes, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope" (Romans 15:3).

I highlight three of these activities here:

1) Each year we produce an Advent Family Prayer booklet, which includes a short prayer service together with Bible readings for each day through the season. Printed copies are available at the church.

2) This Sunday, Dec 10 we will have Ornament Making before the service, starting at 9AM. Come make an ornament to take home.

3) Next Sunday, Dec 17, we will have our annual *NO STRESS* Children's Christmas Pageant. Come at 9:15 to get a costume. The pageant will be at 10AM at the beginning of our Communion Service.

Finally, after our visit from Saint Nick last Sunday, some asked to learn more about the history of Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century Bishop who attended the Council of Nicaea, and how he relates to the modern Santa tradition. I discuss these topics in an article titled "The True Story of Santa Claus," which you can read here.

Every blessing to each of you this Advent season.

In Christ -
Peter
