Greetings, Trinitarians!
Blessings for a Holy Lent to each of you! Yesterday we had a lovely Ash Wednesday service. It began with the imposition of ashes, so as to remember the curse to Adam, that "you are dust and to dust you shall return" (Genesis 3:19). But then at the end of the service, we went to the baptismal font and removed the ashes with the reminder that we are "dead to sin and alive to God in Christ" (Romans 6:11). By these two actions we were reminded both of our sin which merits death, but also the death that Jesus died on our behalf in order to give us life.
I've included with this note two resources. First, a digital version of our Lenten devotional can be accessed here. Printed copies are available at the church. You'll really enjoy the reflections from our Trinity community on the readings through the gospel of Matthew. Second, Bishop Felix writes with encouragement to keep a holy Lent, and you can read his letter here.
