I wanted to send along a brief introduction to David Roseberry's "The Psalm on the Cross," together with an encouragement to attend our Fundraising Gala with David next Friday @ 6PM.
Jesus famously made seven different statements from the cross, which we read each year on Good Friday. One of the most challenging is Jesus' cry: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" What many do not realize is that this statement is also the first verse of Psalm 22.
In "The Psalm on the Cross," David Roseberry explores Psalm 22 as a key to understanding the heart of Jesus and his experience on the cross. Each short chapter looks at one verse from the psalm, and by the end we not only see the profound depth of Jesus' words, we also discover new gratitude for his sacrifice on the cross. I encourage you to pick up a copy of the book at Trinity, and to come to our Gala to hear directly from David.
Plans are coming together for the Gala. We'll start with dinner in the family center. The outreach team is planning a great meal: fish, beans & rice, green beans, salad, with bread pudding and coffee for dessert. Then we'll go to the sanctuary to learn a sung setting of Psalm 22 and to hear from David. We'll conclude with informal conversation and book-signing!
